``Shin Shin Kaizen Usui Reiki Ryoho`` Japanese for ``Usui Reiki Treatment Method for Improvement of Body and Mind``

Jikiden means directly passed down. Reiki means universal (soul) energy and as a practice is an energy healing modality. Jikiden Reiki is the original (eastern) practice of Reiki in Japan that was directly passed down from the founder, Mikao Usui (1865-1926).

History of Jikiden Reiki®

Mikao Usui. Jikiden Reiki therapy. Holistic Wellbeing Practice
Kurama, Japan.

Jikiden Reiki® is the original hands-on practice of Reiki in Japan established by Mikao Usui in 1922. Towards his later years, Miko Usui was on the search for the meaning of life and discovered Reiki healing by chance after an enlightening encounter on Mount Kurama. On his way back down the mountain it was said he tripped, scraping off his toe nail. To his amazement he found he could heal it after instinctively placing his hands on it…and so began his work on Reiki healing in Japan. Usui Sensei (sensei = respectful way of addressing a teacher) had healed hundreds of people and following the tragic Japan earthquake thousands more. The earthquake event would lead to him teaching more people Reiki travelling all around Japan. Reiki became a natural household healing remedy.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is Jikiden Reiki® performed?

Jikiden Reiki is a “hands-on” therapy where the hands are gently placed on the body and universal healing energy is channelled through the practitioner and into the body of the recipient where it is needed. The practitioner will start with the head (energy moves from head to toe) and then search and treat areas as needed as well as treat the areas identified from the consultation. Jikiden Reiki also involves rubbing and cupping as part of the physical treatment.  For any sensitive areas of the body requiring treatment, the hands can be hovered above the body.

You may feel some warmth beneath the hands or you may feel nothing at all, but it is still working.

You will remain dressed but will just be asked to remove coat and shoes before lying on the couch. A towel or blanket will be placed on top to keep you warm.

How does it work?

Hayashi Sensei has been known to use the analogy of “the muddy stream” to illustrate how Reiki in essence detoxifies the body (“This is Reiki” by Frank Arjava Petter). Looking at a stream, it looks “clear and beautiful” but when you start to stir it and move it (incoming Reiki energy) the stream starts to become more and more muddy as the movement lifts the mud (toxins) that have accumulated at the bottom. The more the water moves the more the mud particles start to move away to a different point. In terms of the body this aids movement of the toxins to be processed and eliminated. The more this is done, eventually the more the water becomes clear and the less toxins there are that settle at the bottom. The body (water) becomes lighter and better able to reach and maintain its natural balanced state and maintain the toxin elimination process.

Jikiden Reiki works on the concept of ‘Byosen’ which are levels of sensations perceived by practitioner through the hands. These sensations guide the treatment by detecting where energy is required and for how long.

What are the benefits of Jikiden Reiki®?

Reiki is the channelling of universal energy to optimise and facilitate the body’s natural self-healing mechanism. It is a field of Complementary Therapy and can be used in conjunction with other therapies and orthodox medicine.

* Reiki can be used to provide relief for physical and emotional/psychological issues.

* Provides relief of symptoms (such as pain) and can also be used as a preventative therapy.

* Regular Reiki helps maintain balance in body, mind and soul.

* Reiki works by promoting deep relaxation which reduces feelings of stress and anxiety. Clients often fall asleep during treatment.

 * After receiving Reiki energy people may also feel rejuvenated, energized and feel lighter and more positive.

* Reiki will always have a positive effect. It has been found to assist well with the coping mechanism of patients undergoing aggressive treatments for cancer for example. See Cancer Research UK

* Reiki healing works at a deeper level and leaves you feeling calmer and therefore better able to deal with life issues.

Are there any contraindications?

There are no contraindications and there are no aggressive side effects. Reiki is a safe gentle energy modality.

This means anyone of any age (including babies and children) and any condition or state (including pregnancy) can receive Reiki.

What may I experience during or after Reiki?

During the session you will be laying on a couch or a bed with your eyes closed with some light relaxing music in the background and you may even fall asleep. You may or may not feel sensations such as warmth where the practitioner’s hands are placed.

Clients often report feeling lighter and relaxed after the session. The gentle calming, clearing and balancing effect of Reiki continues even after the session.

It is normal to sometimes have some past/present thoughts or feelings come up during and/or after receiving Reiki. This is part of the natural process of the body balancing itself like during a detox. It is important to allow and acknowledge this process in order to help release and clear thoughts, feelings and emotions as part of the holistic process of self-healing.

How many sessions will I need?

Factors affecting how many sessions a person would need:

 * Everyone’s body is different and everyone has different (and number of) underlying conditions.

 * The state of the condition (mild, moderate or severe) and whether it is acute (just happened) or chronic (been going on for a long time).

 * The lifestyle of the person – plays an important role in recovery.

Due to all of the above, a set number of sessions is not prescribed, however regular and frequent sessions in close succession will bring greater benefit.

I am not a spiritual or religious person, will Reiki still work for me?

The nature of Jikiden Reiki is such that it has no spiritual, religious belief or other requirement for it to work. It just works. Since everything is connected in the universe by energy and since everything is energy the body is helped to be restored to its natural state of balance.

However as with any energy therapy modality, the most benefit is available when you are open to wanting to receive the energy.

Will it tell me if I have any underlying conditions?

Jikiden Reiki is a subtle energy healing modality. It is not a diagnostic therapy and therefore your practitioner will not be diagnosing anything.

If you have any concerns regarding your health please ensure you first seek help and advise from your GP/healthcare provider.

I am not very mobile and can't lie down, can I still have it done?

Jikiden Reiki can be performed in any position you are comfortable in, so if you have limited mobility it can be done with you sitting on a chair or even lying on your bed (home visit).

Please let your practitioner know if you have any limited mobility to help arrange with you the best way to conduct the session.

What is Distant Reiki?

Since everything is energy and everyone is connected by this energy, Reiki can also be performed without direct physical contact with the client. This is called “Enkaku” – Distant Reiki.  This is suitable for anyone who is unable to travel to the clinic due to physical condition or physical distance (out of the country/too far to travel). Or for example, if you’re in hospital recovering, and pre/during/post operation, this method can be supportive for emotional wellbeing.

It can also be sent as per your request if you wish to have a Distant Reiki session.

What is the cost?

* Session time: 75-90 mins of Reiki (allow approx. 2 hours for your appointment in total).
